La declaración de independencia

Hoy voy a celebrar por varias razones. Me voy a emborrachar, voy a mirar los fuegos artificiales, voy a abrazar a mis hijas, voy a disfrutar el día libre, pero sobre todas las cosas voy a celebrar el vivir en este país que tuvo desde sus inicios una visión clara de cuál es la mejor forma de gobierno. Aquí les dejo un fragmento de la declaración de independencia y un breve análisis de sus conceptos claves.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

1)these truths: no son opiniones o puntos de vista, son verdades. Los "founding fathers" no tuvieron miedo de reafirmar sus verdades absolutas.

2) all men are created equal: desde que nacemos somos iguales; ningún gobierno nos dá esa igualdad.

3) certain unalienable rights, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness: tres conceptos fundamentales; a mí me gusta eso de la búsqueda de la felicidad porque me parece que personaliza esta declaración política. Es la defensa del inviduo. Cada uno de nosotros tenemos el derecho de buscar nuestra felicidad. El gobierno no nos la dá. El gobierno sólo nos dá la oportunidad de buscarla.

4) deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed: el poder del gobierno se deriva del grado de aprobación y de consentimiento de los gobernados.

5) it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it: los pueblos tienen el derecho de cambiar o abolir una forma de gobierno que destruya estos derechos inalienables.
