A: So are you going to publish that book?
B: No, I’m not. I have no faith in literature.
A: Why do you write then?
B: I don’t know. I write. I’m not a writer.
A: What do you mean? Is there a difference?
B: To me there is.
A: But you read books others have published. If those writers had felt the same way about literature, you wouldn’t have been able to read their books.
B: That’s true. They probably thought there was some redeeming value in what they wrote. I’m beyond redemption.
A: So, is this about fear or guilt?
B: I don’t know. It may be about faith.
A: Faith in what?
B: That’s the problem. I don’t know.
