The Shining City

How bad is it to lose it all? How bad is it to lose all possessions? What does a man need to live? Is the world coming to an end? What world? Is this the beginning of a new era, one that would force men to look within themselves? This nation was founded on the idea that all men are created equal, that men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that men has the right to pursue happiness. But somehow we got lost. But somehow we got distracted. Now maybe it is time to find ourselves again and forget the greed that brought us here. Who knows? Maybe a better America is just around the corner. Maybe America will redefine itself and will once again become “the shining city upon a hill.”

John Winthrop said, "For we must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill, the eyes of all people are upon us; so that if we shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall shame the faces of many of God's worthy servants, and cause their prayers to be turned into curses . . ."—
